Venturi scrubbers are high performance separators for fine dusts
and aerosols, that is for solid particulate or liquid droplets of 2.5 microns
or less. They are available with an adjustable throat, thus it is an easy task
to maintain a constant relative velocity between gas and scrubbing liquor
flows, with fluctuating suction gas flows. As this type of scrubber is designed
to remove particulate, the internal geometry must be wide enough to allow the
free flow of solids and these relatively large internal spaces mean that this
vacuum cannot be generated, thus a mechanical fan must be employed to provide a
through-flow of gases.
