Niro has released a new brochure for customers who wish to know more about
the opportunities on offer for small-scale and R&D spray drying plants.
R&D and small-scale production plants
Niro produce a comprehensive range of versatile spray drying plants for
R&D and Small-scale production. The experience gained from supplying over
10,000 plants across the world in over 70 years can be seen in the attention to
detail and performance of each plant produced today.
From proof of concept through laboratory and pilot plant testing to scale-up
and project fulfillment, Niro offers unmatched engineering knowledge and
experience – all tailored to produce individual solutions to specific customer
requirements.
Atomization choices
Niro offers a range of atomization solutions, each carefully designed to
produce varying product properties:
• Rotary atomizer – centrifugal
forces within an atomizer wheel act on a liquid feed to accelerate the feed to
a point where it leaves the wheel as small droplets before being discharged
into a hot drying gas. A wide range of wheel designs and sizes are available
for both abrasive and non-abrasive feeds.
• Two-fluid nozzle,
co-current or fountain mode – high velocity, compressed air or gas acts on the
feed to produce carefully controlled particle sizes. The particle size can be
selected by changing the nozzle flow ratio between the atomizing medium and the
feed.
• Pressure nozzle, co-current or fountain mode – atomization
results from converting the energy within the liquid feed into kinetic energy:
pressure applied to the feed within the nozzle forces the feed out of the
orifice, creating atomization. This atomization technique delivers a narrower
particle size distribution than other types of atomization, the size of which
can be altered by changing the feed pressure and/or nozzle size.
Powder engineering
Tailoring the drying process to achieve the specific particulate size,
structure and moisture content for an application is a discipline that Niro has
refined and improved over many decades, making Niro the world leader in spray
dryer powder engineering.
Niro Test Center
In addition to the many years of supplying an unmatched range of spray
drying plants, Niro’s own test center – the largest facility of its type in the
world – is able to offer advice, validate processes and is supported by on-site
laboratories and pilot plants.
Plant types
Niro offers customers a range of solutions as no one process nor application
is suitable for all applications. Currently, Niro offers the following plants:
• MOBILE MINOR™ – this flexible, easy-to-handle laboratory spray dryer
offers customers the opportunity to produce small, representative powder
samples
• PRODUCTION MINOR™ – a spray dryer with interchangeable
atomization and powder discharge systems
• VERSATILESD™ – models offer both
open and closed cycle options, with a wide range of standard spray drying
modules that can be configured to meet various customer specific requirements
• FSD™ and FSD MINOR™ – this fluidized spray dryer uses multi-stage drying
technology on a small-scale for the production of coarse, dustless and
free-flowing agglomerates
• IFD™ and IDF MINOR™ – the integrated filter
dryer features spray drying and agglomeration, second-stage drying, powder
cooling and powder separation integrated in a compact unit. This plant also
offers a high level of containment and simplified powder handling (no need for
cyclone nor external bag filters)
• SWIRL FLUIDIZER™ MINOR – produces fine,
homogenous and non-agglomerated dry product from pastes, filter cakes and
viscous liquids
• VIBRO-FLUIDIZERŪ – for final treatment of powders,
agglomerates and granules
• FILTERMAT™ – the spray dryer for drying sticky,
hygroscopic, thermoplastic, slowly crystallizing and aromatic products into
free-flowing, agglomerated powders.
Process control
Niro’s well-proven control and automation systems provide safe, flexible
operations with full visibility. Options range from simple push-button panels
to advanced PLC/HMI solutions. Throughout the entire process, all Niro spray
dryer systems and units provide the users with security of experience
unsurpassed in the marketplace.
