Application: Test work to obtain operational data and basis for the design of industrial size plants of this type.

Capacity: The UHT feed capacity is 50-100 kg/h. The deaeration feed capacity is 250-350 kg/h. The minimum feed requirement is about 150 kg.

Specification: The LSITM lenient steam injection system (patented) is used for direct steam injection into a liquid product.

The vital heating and cooling profile curves are nearly vertical over the critical temperature range, thus allowing a precise control of the heating up, holding and cooling down times. The LSITM direct steam system offers exceptional flexibility for handling products with a wider range of viscosity and other variable physical characteristics.

Within the LSITM unit, the steam is mixed into the concentrate by a dynamic mixer. Very small steam bubbles are created, and superheating/denaturation is avoided. This allows for a higher steam pressure to be used. The LSITM unit is often used in combination with other heat exchangers if temperatures above 75 ºC are required in the concentrate.

Preheating of concentrate is advantageous, not only from a bacteriological point of view. It also results in a viscosity decrease, which together with the applied calories results in a capacity increase of minimum 4% on the spray dryer and an improved solubility of the produced powder.
