Application: Test work to obtain operational data and basis for design of industrial size MSD™/FSD™ plants.
Capacity: The evaporative capacity is 50-200 kg/h and the minimum feed requirement is about 500 kg.
Specification: The chamber has a 2.0 m diameter, a 2.3 m cylindrical height, a 45 degree conical bottom, and a 0.5 m diameter internal fluid bed. Below the chamber two 0.3 m2 VIBRO-FLUIDIZER™ beds are installed to allow post-drying and cooling of the product. The 2000 kg/h of main air is heated by a direct LPG burner or an electrical heater to an inlet temperature of maximum 400 °C. The 600 kg/h of air to the internal fluid bed is heated electrically to a maximum inlet temperature of 140 °C.
The feed is supplied by a Mono pump and can be followed by a piston pump (with a maximum feed pressure of 300 bar). The feed is atomized by either co-current pressure or two-fluid nozzles. Fines recovered from cyclone and/or the SANICIP™ bag filter can be returned to various (optional) positions in the chamber. Product discharge from internal fluid bed through the 2 VIBRO-FLUIDIZERs™.
The GEA Niro Test Center MSD™ combines spray drying and fluid bed drying technologies in order to produce coarse, agglomerated (instant), free-flowing dustless powders. Agglomeration in the spray zone occurs as the exhaust air outlet is feed through the roof. Even sticky products can be dried successfully, and the concept is ideal for drying heat sensitive products. The MSD™ even features improved aroma retention.
