The new Type ‘R’ Pharma membrane filtration pilot plant from GEA Filtration
provides accurate test results, with reliable scale-up to full production, for
the recovery of a wide range of active pharmaceutical and bio-tech products in
accordance with cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practice).
The Type
‘R’ Pharma is suitable for use in clean rooms to perform pilot studies on the
full range of filtration technologies (Micro-filtration, Ultra filtration,
Nano-filtration and Reverse Osmosis) and uniquely has the versatility to house
a variety of membrane configurations with a membrane area of up to 14m2 –
including spirally wound, ceramic, and hollow fibre.
It is designed for
batch or continuous operation and automatic CIP (Cleaning in Place).
The Type ‘R’ produces accurate results that are replicated during full
production. To achieve this GEA has taken great care in the plant’s design. All
the plant’s components and instruments have been carefully chosen to provide
maximum safety and accuracy. The plant uses frequency-controlled pumps to
minimise product damage, limit the addition of heat and maintain correct
operating parameters over a wide range of pressures and flowrates.
Various control options are available dependant upon location and site
philosophy using either conventional controllers for the various process
parameters including feed pressure, recirculation flow, and operating
temperatures with the option of data logging of the key process parameters in
accordance with FDA CFR 21 pt 11, through to fully automatic PLC controlled
plant start up and operation requiring the minimum of operator supervision and
intervention.
The new Type ‘R’ Pharma is also available in XP form for
use with non-water solvent systems with potentially explosive characteristics.
