These units operate by employing Steam Jet Vacuum Pumps to
reduce the pressure in a series of Flash and thus to Chill water, by flashing
down in series, from one vessel to the next, until the desired water
temperature is achieved. They can operate using low pressure, waste steams as
the motive medium and have a very low chilled-medium hold-up volume. Another
advantage is if steam is used for heating during the Winter months, this spare
capacity during Summer can be used to produce chilled water.
